La Rabida Children's Hospital – Clinical Educator (RN)– Registry

La Rabida Children's Hospital is hiring a Registry Clinical Educator (RN) for the Patient Care Services department in Chicago, IL.

Clinical Educator (RN) Registry Essential Functions :

Education :

  • Continuously do research and other scholarly reviews to stay on top of best practices, standards of practice, and updated laws and regulations.
  • Reviews and disseminates current information on trends in healthcare.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates educational activities based on identified learning needs, and ensures they meet regulatory and professional standards including record-keeping for permanent and temporary staff.
  • Develops a yearly educational plan based on unit educational needs assessments.
  • Coordinates with leadership to conduct preceptor training / mentoring sessions for staff.
  • Assesses the clinical needs of all staff and formulates action plans as needed.
  • Supports ongoing development of critical thinking skills among clinical staff.
  • Coordinates student affiliations in collaboration with clinical leadership
  • Coordinate external educational opportunities.

Onboarding & Competency :

  • Develops, coordinates, administers, facilitates, and evaluates onboarding and clinical competency programs.
  • Conducts onboarding, training, and competency evaluation of new and existing staff. Develops and evaluates initial onboarding and training programs, establishes initial competencies continues, and reinforces onboarding activities.
  • In collaboration with leadership, evaluates orientation of staff (permanent and temporary staff) and identifies further instruction needs.
  • Provides feedback on the staff’s clinical needs to unit leadership.
  • Manages the crash cart and its contents as needs change Ongoing evaluation of the code carts throughout the building and AEDs
  • Coordinates annual competency programs and evaluations.
  • Leadership :

    Functions as a teacher, leader, and role model for staff.

  • Provides guidance, resources, and knowledge for the professional growth of others.
  • Mentors colleagues, students, and others as appropriate.
  • Teaches and monitors the effectiveness of special educational programs / in-services in collaboration with hospital-wide leadership.
  • Participates in data collection for quality improvement management
  • Participates in establishing, developing, and managing policies, standards, and procedures as requested.
  • Practice and promote effective communication :

    Demonstrates excellent communication skills.

  • Collaborates with leadership and other departments to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Interprets hospital and patient care policy efficiently to staff.
  • Accepts membership on committees as a representative for clinical inpatient staff.
  • Maintains required job skills clinical expertise and professional competencies :

  • Demonstrates excellent clinical skills in nursing practice.
  • Works collaboratively with members of the Patient Education Committee to ensure appropriate teaching materials are available for family and staff.
  • Participates in learning activities.
  • Attends required educational sessions.
  • Member of professional organizations.
  • Attends a minimum of six non-required education sessions per year.
  • What we need from you :

    Education : A graduate of an approved school of professional nursing is required. BSN preferred.

    Related Work Experience : Three (3) years of experience in pediatrics is required. Clinical Educator experience preferred.

    Licensure / Certification : Currently licensed as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois is required. Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in pediatric nursing.

    Specialized Knowledge and Skills : Can function as an exceptional role model to staff. Is familiar with policies of regulatory agencies; JCAHO, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Nurse Practice Act, and Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). Is able to establish priorities and possesses independent decision-making capabilities.

    CPR Required : Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.

    Hourly Rate : $65.00
