Job Summary:
The position will operate mobile medical vehicle and serve patients by identifying the best method of care. Assists Mobile Unit Nurse Practitioner and Mobile Unit RN to ensure patients and their families have access to the mobile health unit services. Responsible for providing patient flow, patient recordkeeping follow-up, patient education, and other related activities as required. Assists with setup of events including primary care clinics, vaccine clinics, and testing clinics. Exhibits excellent working relations with patients, visitors and staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
Drives mobile health unit according to prearranged schedule. Assists with fueling fleet as needed, including diesel and propane. (Cost covered by La Red.) Cleans exterior and interior on a regular and recurring basis. Completes necessary paperwork including vehicle repair, incident and mileage logs. Loads vaccination and medical equipment into vehicle. Completes checklists for set-up and clean-up of each clinic. Set up unit for the provider(s), assisting to locate supplies and equipment. Performs inventory of supplies and medications as directed. Report restocking needs or maintenance concerns to the Supervisor on a weekly basis and/or as needed.
Assists with or performs patient intake, patient registration and schedules appointments. Updates patient medication list in patient EMR for every visit. Completes past medical, immunizations, social, surgical, and family history on every new patient. Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established EMR systems and documentation practices. Records patient care management information in the EMR and other software no later than 24 hours after patient contact.
Prepares patients for examination, check vital signs, weight, and height. Performs standard clinical and laboratory procedures, Accuchek and other screenings as required in accordance with established clinical protocols. Administers patient injections and vaccines as directed by the clinical providers. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Performs venous access procedures on infants, pediatrics, and adult patients using a standard needle and syringe, as well as a multi-tube needle holder. Performs capillary access procedures on infants, pediatrics, and adult patients whether for direct testing of the sample, into a blood collection tube. Maintains ample stock of all phlebotomy supplies. Understands laboratory requisitioning for appropriate billing documentation. Ensures the patient’s sample meets the specimen requirements for all tests collected, sufficient volume for testing, the correct collection tube used, insuring proper dilution factor for anticoagulated specimens. Understands proper specimen handling. Retrieves specimens; preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performs screening procedures. Transports labs when required to local public health facilities and upon return to home base. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies
Responsible for helping patients and their families to navigate and access community services, other resources, and adopt healthy behaviors. As a priority, activities will promote, maintain, and improve the health of patients and their families. Provides social support and informal counseling, advocates for individuals and community health needs. Provide referrals for services to community agencies as appropriate. Help patients connect with transportation resources and provide appointment reminders in special circumstances. Acts as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient/family and community service agencies. Maintains HIPPA compliance at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education/Experience:
- Graduate from accredited medical assistant program
- Must have a clean driving record
- Experience in Medical transport is a plus.
Language Skills:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) or (Haitian Creole) preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required of the Position:
Knowledge of medical settings and medical terminology. Knowledge or experience with driving and maintaining large vehicles. Knowledgeable about community resources appropriate to needs of patients/families. Knowledge of EMR system, medical record documentation requirements and state/federal laws related to the release of health care information.
Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks. Skill in Microsoft Office Programs, email, internet and medical record systems. Skill in collaborating, planning, organization, problem-solving and decision-making. Attention to detail, time management s, motivated and ability to self-direct.
Ability to impart information and education to a wide variety of audiences; community members, health professionals, and service providers. Ability to connect to the community. Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with patients and families to facilitate implementation of a care plan. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle with patient passengers. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to work as an integral member of a team and work with little or no supervision.

Mobile Medical Vehicle, Cellular Phone , Computer or Tablet, Height and weight measuring equipment. Wide range of standard medical equipment including portable ultrasound equipment, syringes, needles, stethoscope, scales, thermometers, etc.
