La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 1560 students in grades 6 through 12.
We are seeking a dynamic and well-rounded science educator to join our science department. The primary responsibility for the position is teaching Biology, with opportunities to instruct elective courses such as Anatomy, Forensics, Microbiology, Oceanography or other science-related subjects based on expertise and student interest. We are looking for passionate educators who can engage students in inquiry-based learning, foster scientific curiosity, and contribute to a collaborative academic environment. Educators from any science background are encouraged to apply.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will instruct and supervise five (5) high school classes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teach biology to high school students in accordance with state and national standards.
- Teach at least one elective course based on expertise and departmental needs. This elective course can include but is not limited to: Anatomy, Forensics, Microbiology, Oceanography, Biotechnology, Environmental Science or at the AP Level.
- Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on labs, critical thinking, and real-world applications.
- Utilize technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning.
- Assess and support student progress through differentiated instruction.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and contribute to the science department.
- Participate in school activities, professional development, and extracurricular programs as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Biology, Education, or a related field.
- Strong background in Biology or general science. Field experience in related fields will be considered.
- Familiarity with computers and an interest in technology integration is desired.
- Teaching experience in other science subjects or disciplines preferred.
- Experience in hands-on, inquiry-based science instruction preferred.
- Effective classroom management and communication skills.
- Passion for fostering student engagement and scientific inquiry.
