General Manager
At LA Semiconductor we are seeking an experienced semiconductor professional to lead operations at our 350 employee, 550,000 square foot semiconductor manufacturing facility in beautiful Pocatello, Idaho. This role requires a technically strong leader with deep expertise in semiconductor fabrication, regulatory compliance, and process optimization. The ideal candidate must have strong people management skills and the ability to navigate adversity, manage change, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic and ambiguous environment.
The General Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with GMP, automotive (IATF 16949), military (MIL-STD), and ITAR standards, while leading all regulatory and customer audits to maintain certifications and quality excellence.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Compliance
- Oversee daily operations of the semiconductor fabrication facility, ensuring all safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets are met.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 (automotive), MIL-STD (military), and ITAR (export control) standards, along with ISO and environmental regulations.
- Lead and manage all regulatory, customer, and internal audits, always ensuring full compliance and readiness.
- Manage and improve the best practices for cleanroom protocols, contamination control, and equipment maintenance.
Process & Performance Optimization
- Drive yield improvements, process stability, and equipment efficiency (OEE) using data-driven decision-making and SPC methodologies.
- Lead Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and cost efficiency.
- Monitor and improve cycle time, throughput, and defect reduction efforts to ensure world-class performance.
Regulatory & Audit Leadership
- Develop and maintain a culture of audit readiness, ensuring adherence to regulatory, quality, and safety requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and customer audits, driving successful certification renewals and compliance adherence.
- Collaborate with Quality, EHS, and Compliance teams to maintain and continuously improve audit preparedness and documentation.
- Address and resolve findings from audits and inspections, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
People & Change Management
- Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and operators, fostering a high-performance, result-driven culture.
- Drive employee engagement, training, and career development to build technical and leadership capabilities.
- Successfully manage adversity and change, ensuring operational stability during process modifications, regulatory shifts, and business transitions.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams to drive alignment and efficiency.
Strategic & Financial Management
- Develop and manage budgets, cost controls, and capital investment strategies to support growth and operational efficiency.
- Partner with leadership to drive manufacturing strategy and support business expansion plans.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or a related field).
- 15 years of semiconductor fabrication experience, with at least 5 years in a Factory leadership role.
- Expertise in wafer processing, photolithography, etching, deposition, metrology, and yield enhancement.
- Strong understanding of GMP, automotive (IATF 16949), military (MIL-STD), and ITAR compliance in semiconductor manufacturing.
- Proven experience in leading regulatory, customer, and internal audits, ensuring compliance and successful certification renewals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change, adversity, and ambiguity in a high-tech, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC), DOE, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills to influence and inspire teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing a 24/7 high-volume semiconductor fab.
- Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
