The Property
The La Tourelle Hotel and Spa is a 54-room room property located in Ithaca New York, one mile from Ithaca College and 3.8 miles from Cornell University. The new owners are making significant upgrades to the property including renovation of all guest rooms, a new restaurant and improvements to the Spa. The property is seeking an enthusiastic hospitality person who wants to make an impact on a diverse business in a team environment.
In the heart of the Finger Lakes wine country and adjacent to Buttermilk Falls State Park, the Hotel is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The 15-acre site includes “Ithaca by Firelight,” a 22-unit luxury camping facility which leases its venue from La Tourelle. While not operated by La Tourelle, there are synergies and interactions between the businesses as there is overlapping ownership in both entities. There is ample banquet space and private dining facilities including a unique historic farmhouse. With 6 treatment rooms, the August Moon Spa is locally popular and a draw for overnight guests. In addition to season tourism and events, the clientele is largely associated with the educational institutions, which together total some 30,000 students.
Assistant General Manager
Job Description
This is a dynamic position which includes wide ranging responsibilities including participation in Rooms, Food, Beverage, Revenue Management, Meetings, Marketing and general operation of the Hotel. Attributes of a successful individual in this position are (1) Flexibility to the needs of a smaller but varied business model (2) Highly developed customer service and staff support skills with a spirit to serve (3) Entrepreneurial zeal and willingness to innovate (4) Excellent communication skills in connection with both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Periodically serve as one of the “Managers on Duty” of the Hotel, including overseeing the Food and Beverage operations as needed.
- Assist in the management and operations of the Housekeeping, Maintenance and Front office departments
- Manage the Hotel Guest Satisfaction Survey and prepare/distribute guest comments and Satisfaction Reports periodically to the Hotel Team.
- Assist in the set up and management of events, meetings and groups, as needed
- Become expert at the Hotel’s Property Management system in order to enter and manage group room blocks; work one full or partial shift per week at the front desk
- Manage the Guest Recognition Program
- Work cooperatively with adjacent leased partner, Ithaca by Firelight. Ensure mutual benefit to both businesses through shared services
- Assist in Spa operations and initiatives as requested by the GM
- Participate in the execution of the Hotel’s strategic plan, to include renovations, service enhancements and new initiatives to improve the guest experience and Hotel profitability
- Participate in and support sales initiatives and events
- Assist in the general operation of the Hotel as directed by the GM
- Serve as an important member of the Hotel’s Executive Committee

Pay: $72,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
