The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

LA28, the organizers for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, is on a mission to create an unparalleled Games experience for athletes, fans, partners, our community and our people. The 2028 Olympics and Paralympics will represent LA and leverage the strength of our community’s diversity and creativity as we collectively work to design a Games that we all want to be a part of. We do this by focusing on people and by inviting everyone into the story of the LA28 Games.

The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.

Associate, Sustainability

The LA28 Sustainability team is responsible for working across the organization and a wide range of external stakeholders to deliver a more environmentally sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028. Reporting to the VP of Sustainability, the Sustainability Associate role will assist in developing and implementing sustainability programs organization-wide. This role spans measurement and reporting, project management, employee engagement, and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development and implementation of LA28’s public sustainability commitments
• Develop and track environmental KPIs, including waste, water and carbon, across organization
• Develop and implement an internal sustainability management system, including managing ISO 20121 audits and certification
• Develop and roll out internal sustainability training and engagement materials for LA28 staff and contractors
• Project manage the development of sustainability reports and additional publications
• Support sustainability communications across multiple platforms
• Coordinate collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
• Conduct administrative tasks and desktop research as needed
  
  

Background & Qualifications:

• 2 years of full-time work experience in corporate sustainability, sustainability consulting, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience working with data, preferably in a role supporting internal sustainability data collection and management
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to completion
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
• Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
• A high energy level, entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to thrive through a period of change and growth
• Fluency working with Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)

• An undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental studies) or equivalent work experience

The annual base salary range for this position is $$70,000.00 - $75,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
