What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Engineer (3-5 years) position at LaBella Associates?
LaBella is currently seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Division in the Hoover office, supporting our client portfolio of municipal, utility, industrial, county, state, federal, and private clients in Alabama and across the southeast. This position will work on local projects as well as working collaboratively with personnel in other LaBella offices.
Duties:
- Work collaboratively on planning, design, and/or research on general civil engineering projects
- Produce drawings using computer aided drafting systems AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Storm water and wastewater infiltration testing and design
- Pavement evaluation and assessment
- Development of detailed construction drawings and specifications for steep slopes, site retaining walls, culverts, and pavement sections
- Field oversight of subsurface investigations and soil investigation services. Flexible schedule to arrive at project sites at required times, out of town work periodically
- Perform technical analysis and provide parameters for design based on subsurface investigation results
- Prepare interpretive engineering reports
- Perform field inspections during the construction phase, as needed
- Evaluate, analyze, interpret, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for civil engineering projects
- Prepare and review drawings to communicate engineering or architectural ideas
- Perform design tasks and prepare portions of project documents
- Assist in the preparation of project specifications and design reports
- Assist with Construction Administration tasks such as attending construction meetings and reviewing construction documents
- Collaborate with other divisions and departments in a professional manner
- Keep informed of new developments and requirements of civil engineering and civil design
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
• 3-5 years of experience.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer preferred or E.I.T on track to become P.E.
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively in a team framework.
• Ability, willingness, and enthusiasm to learn as necessary to fill different roles based on project needs that vary in breadth, depth, and subject matter.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate efficiently with teammates in different disciplines and different locations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Proficient in Microsoft productivity suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
• Knowledge of drafting methods and procedures.
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D software and associated best practices related to layering, drawing/figure production, and coordination between disciplines.
• Experience modeling water systems using HydroCAD, WaterCAD, or other hydraulic/process modeling software.
• Ability and willingness to receive and understand instructions/guidance, and complete tasks independently.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000
The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.
