Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES: Under the direction of a Sr. Boiler Inspector, the incumbent will schedule regulatory safety inspections of high and low pressure boilers and boiler installations. Inspections are conducted to ensure their safe operating condition and to enforce compliance with statutory provisions of the Labor Law and industrial rules relating to boiler operations. May conduct inspections as the result of complaints or accidents. Inspections may require climbing through small openings and on top of boilers.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders

Omissions or vagueness may not be interpreted in your favor.Four years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.Substitution - An associate degree* in engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechanical technology and either two years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.*An associate degree in engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechanical technology and either two years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.It is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status in the future, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. You must meet the open competitive qualifications from the most recent examination announcement.Reassignment Qualifications: Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a Boiler Inspector; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Boiler Inspector eligible list for this location, if one exists.70.1 Transfer Qualifications: One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 12 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service. 70.4 Transfer Qualifications: 1. One year of permanent or contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to a Salary Grade 12 or higher. 2. A passing score on the Boiler Inspector exam and 3. Must meet the minimum qualifications of a Boiler Inspector. Note: Candidates must not have failed the most recent examination for this title. Additional comments regarding the vacancy. Additional Comments A medical examination will be required prior to appointment, and you are responsible for payment of the clinical laboratory test fee. Appointees to this position may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position.This position may require a fingerprint background check prior to appointment.Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.
