Qualifications

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to two years full-time work in one or a combination of construction inspection or any mechanical work including but not limited welding, plumbing, HVAC, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical systems.

Must meet eligibility requirements for a Commission issued by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.
Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.

Overview

Under immediate supervision, is trained to perform boiler inspection work of routine difficulty by senior level Boiler Inspectors. This is a trainee level class which prepares an employee to become a Boiler Inspector 1*. An employee in this class trains to inspect boilers and pressure vessels. This class differs from that of Boiler Inspector 1* in that an incumbent of the latter requires more industry experience and functions at the entry level inspecting boilers and pressure vessels.

Responsibilities

• Participates in training on conducting inspections of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure the equipment is in satisfactory working condition.
• Trains on applicable regulations and laws governing use and condition of boiler equipment.
• Trains to review and document standard test to verify condition of boilers and pressure vessels.
• Trains to calculate allowable limits of pressure, strength, and stresses on boilers and pressure vessels to make recommendations to the Chief Boiler Inspector.
• Trains to identify deficiencies/defects of machinery or during operation of machinery to determine if the equipment is unsafe or disqualified to operate within legal requirements.
• Trains to communicate issues identified in construction, operation, and repair of boilers and pressure vessels to engineers, manufacturers, contractors, and/or owners to correct violations.
• Trains on maintaining reports and preparation of summary of inspections and investigations for legal and administrative use.
• Trains on scheduling of boilers and pressure vessels inspections.
• Attends formal and informal hearings as a representative as needed.
