The Laborers Funds Administrative Office of Northern California, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation, established in 1963, which provides administrative services under contractual arrangements for the Northern California Laborers Trust Funds. We employ over 100 employees and provide services for over 30,000 Laborers and beneficiaries in the various employee benefit plans we have administered since 1963.
The Role
This position is responsible for maintaining the books of three small Funds. It requires adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and to internal practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial statement. This position works closely with other departments to keep track, code and deposit all the payments received in the offices of the Trust Funds. It deposits said receipts through a remote deposit scanner or daily courier. In addition, this position processes internal requests for voiding and stopping checks. This position works closely with our bank to resolve submissions for forgeries and counterfeits and resolve daily positive pay exceptions and inquiries. It also, processes re-claims with the bank. This position is responsible for distributing the departments daily mail and assisting in other projects as required by management.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and edit invoice coding, reconcile cash accounts, record journal entries for maintaining the books for several small Funds.
- Balance and reconcile accounts and prepare financial statements for the small Funds.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the daily banking activity.
- Reconcile daily bank activity against the Funds’ internal Basys system.
- Keep track and maintain logs for all the checks received by the Trust Funds including employer checks, Cobra checks, Withdrawal Liability checks, Health insurance, Pension and Annuity overpayment checks and other miscellaneous receipts
- Analyze all checks received by the Trust Fund and distribute accordingly.
- Process all “Check Void and Stop” requests from other departments.
- Prepare and submit withdrawal liability letter and check.
- Work with members of the bank to resolve positive pay, returned deposits and other miscellaneous issues and inquiries.
- Distribute departmental mail.
- Preserve the records retention logs.
- Light office administrative duties.
- Assist with other projects as required by the accounting supervisor and management.
- Report to Accounting Supervisor of any issues.

- This position requires an associate degree in accounting, business administration or a minimum of five years' related experience.
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements is preferred.
- 10 key by touch.
- Experience in Great Plains accounting software and Basys software is a plus.
