Responsibilities
- Fill Operational Gaps: Step in to perform various tasks during periods of high absenteeism, including operating resin spray equipment (gun running), laying and rolling fiberglass materials (chop/mat, biaxial, woven fabrics, foam) into decks, hulls, and liners, applying gelcoat with precise color matching, repairing cosmetic and structural fiberglass damage (patching), and shaping or finishing fiberglass components through cutting and grinding.
- Oversee Daily Operations: Review and manage daily tasks within the lamination department, ensuring all processes align with production schedules and quality standards.
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement process enhancements to optimize department performance, focusing on efficiency and quality.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure team members are attentive to both customer and internal quality issues, addressing anomalies promptly and effectively.
- Communication: Update and disseminate information through departmental and station boards, facilitating clear and consistent communication across the team.
- Collaboration with Engineering: Work closely with the engineering team to launch new products and manage custom deviations, ensuring seamless integration into production.
- Maintain Workplace Standards: Uphold and promote a world-class 5S workplace organization system, fostering a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Training and Development: Assist in training new employees, fostering their growth and integration into the team.
Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years in lamination roles within the marine industry, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of fiberglass processes.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in various fiberglass techniques, including gun running, rolling, gel coating, patching, and cutting/grinding operations.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, engage, coach, and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively liaise between management and shop floor personnel.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues promptly and implement effective solutions to maintain production flow and quality standards.
- Physical Requirements: Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working with fiberglass materials and chemicals.
- Educational Background: High school diploma or GED preferred; technical certifications in fiberglass repair and lamination are advantageous.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
