GENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting to the Dean of Nursing, the Adjunct Faculty in Arts & Health Sciences has the primary responsibility of teaching disciplinary or interdisciplinary courses for the general education curriculum in an online or hybrid format, capable of being fully delivered asynchronously or semi-synchronously to students in off-campus locations. This position is for the Spring 2022 semester, with the possibility of additional semester-long appointments, contingent on successful observations and division needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*
- Develop and teach 14-week hybrid science courses such as MIC 2201: Microbiology Lecture Lab. The lecture will be entirely online, while the Lab will be on campus in Milton, MA. Morning and evening lab sections are offered.
- Design and archive all course materials online, in the College’s LMS, and the Division-wide shared cloud space, as maintained by the Dean of Arts & Health Sciences. The division will provide a standard syllabus and some course materials. However, the faculty is expected to tailor the materials to fit the course SLOs, the needs of the students enrolled in the course, and the individual faculty’s teaching methods and areas of expertise.
- Conform to best practices standards and guidelines set forth by, but not limited to, the AAC&U and other relevant discipline-specific professional societies.
- Maintain and keep visible all course materials for approximately three years.
- Respond to student questions and concerns in an appropriate format within 24 hours.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adjunct Faculty are welcome, but not required, to attend College and Division faculty meetings and Professional Development opportunities as appropriate.
PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the discipline of Microbiology, Biology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 semesters of college-level hybrid teaching experience in Microbiology or a related field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to develop and deliver high-impact, engaging electronic course materials. Prior experience with the eLearning LMS is required.
- Ability to quickly and efficiently adapt to new online systems and procedures.
