Bilingual Food QC Tech for Specialty Food Company in Wheeling, IL
Our client, a fast-growing, $20-million specialty food company, is seeking a highly-motivated and detail-oriented Quality Technician with SQF experience to join their team. The position is based in Wheeling, IL. This client has government, international, and major retailers such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, Woodman's, & White Castle as clients. Tu-F are 8 hr shifts, Sat & M are 12-hour shifts.
Duties of the QC Food Technician
This individual will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving product quality and safety throughout the production process. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting routine inspections, verifying sanitation practices, & ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with production teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine quality inspections of production at various stages of the mfr. process.
- Perform physical, chemical, and sensory tests on raw materials and finished products.
- Conduct pre-operational and SSOP’s (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) to ensure all necessary cleaning and sanitation activities are completed before production begins, as needed.
- Perform daily equipment calibration to ensure all testing & production equipment is functioning.
- Report pest control issues to Prod. Supervisors and QC Mgr. to maintain facility hygiene and prevent contamination risks.
- Monitor cooler temperatures regularly to ensure products are stored and maintained at appropriate conditions for quality control.
- Ensure products meet food safety standards and regulatory requirements, including HACCP, GMP, USDA, and FDA guidelines.
- Organize and file all incoming COA’s (Certificates of Analysis) and ensure all required documentation are properly reviewed.
- Assist the Production Supervisor in the execution of the daily production plan, ensuring the timely and efficient production of quality products.
- Assist in the training of new hires to ensure they understand QC standards & procedures.
- Fill out all required production reporting paperwork, ensuring accurate documentation
Qualifications;
- High school diploma or equivalent; an AS in food science or QA, or a related field is preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish speaker is a plus for effective communication with diverse teams.
- Prior experience in quality control or assurance, preferably within the food manufacturing industry, with experience in cracker or snack production considered an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and other food safety regulations.
- Proficient in using measurement tools and lab equipment for product testing and quality checks.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies in production.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
