Objective
Laboratory assistants work alongside the testing personnel and assists with the processing and testing of specimens in the laboratory.
Essential Functions
- Perform tests as instructed by a supervisor
- Maintain all laboratory policies and procedures regarding patient confidentiality and privacy
- Complete tasks in an organized and timely manner
- Follow all Universal Precautions
- Wear the required uniform and safety protection equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and lab coats while working in designated areas
- Maintain onboarding and annual training on Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA, OSHA, First Aid, and all required safety manuals
- Follow procedures for specimen collection, accessioning, and distribution
- Computer proficiency for data entry and accuracy in Life Points
- Clean and organize the stations and specimen storage areas
- Stock inventory upon delivery and break down boxes
- Assure biohazard waste is weighed prior to pick-up
