Objective
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and the reporting of results.
Essential Functions
- Follow laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintenance of records
- Keeping records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are handled in the same way as patient samples
- Performs laboratory diagnostics test, which are waived, moderately and highly complex
- Monitors the quality control of tests and instruments
- Maintains all instrumentation used and documenting any daily maintenance required
- Maintain all laboratory policies and procedures regarding patient confidentiality and privacy
- Adheres to the laboratory's Quality Control policies and documents all QC activities including instrument calibrations
- Identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and correcting the problem or notifying the supervisor
- Follow all Universal Precautions
- Wear the required uniform and safety protection equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and lab coats while working in designated areas
- Maintain onboarding and annual training on Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA, OSHA, First Aid, and all required safety manuals
- Computer proficiency for data entry and accuracy in Life Points and other systems
- Clean and organize the stations and specimen storage areas
- Performs additional duties as instructed by the Director
