Job Summary:
A Merchandise Handler plays a crucial role in the retail and distribution industry by efficiently handling and processing goods, ensuring accurate inventory management, and contributing to a smooth operation of the supply chain. This position requires a combination of physical dexterity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Essential Job Functions:
- Safely and efficiently load, unload, sort, and move merchandise, packages, or products within a warehouse, distribution center, or retail store environment.
- Accurately track, count, and record inventory levels using manual or electronic systems. Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy through proper handling and documentation.
- Pick, pack, and prepare merchandise for shipping to customers, ensuring that orders are accurate and properly packaged to prevent damage during transit.
- Inspect merchandise for defects, damage, or inconsistencies, reporting any issues to supervisors and following established quality control procedures.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work area, including shelving, storage bins, and loading docks. Ensure that merchandise is stored in a safe and accessible manner.
- Operate various types of equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, in a safe and responsible manner. Follow equipment operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of received and shipped merchandise, including serial numbers, SKU numbers, and other relevant information.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth coordination of merchandise handling and distribution processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Physical fitness for lifting and moving items
- Strong attention to detail
- Good organizational skills
- Teamwork and communication abilities
- Problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of safety protocols
- Previous experience preferred
- Basic computer skills
- Customer service skills
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred
Physical demands:
- Frequent physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy merchandise or packages.
- Capable of lifting objects weighing 50-100 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces, such as concrete floors.
Working environment:
- Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust may be expected
Hours:
- Alternating shift; variable hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
