About the Role
The Director of Finance is responsible for leading all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team with functional responsibility over not for profit accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. The Director of Finance will ensure that systems and procedures are in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. The Director of Finance will work closely with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations. In addition, the Director of Finance will partner with the CFO, senior leadership, development and the human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, development, HR, and IT functions.

Finance
Responsible for providing accurate, timely, and transparent accounting services and financial support; creates financial reports, leads budgeting and forecasting processes, manages payables, receivables, payroll, and general accounting.
Essential Functions of the Role
Sound People Leadership
- Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals
- Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Strategic Thinking
- Implements overall program strategy
- Collaborates with the CFO on the organization’s financial strategy and provides input and recommendation
Effective Provess Management & Operations
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Leads annual audit process.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the agency’s financial status
- Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program management staff; continuously collaborate with program management staff to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
Lead Perfotrmance Management for Direct Reports
- Participates in performance management for indirect reports.
- Proactively collaborates with the HR team.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new employees.
- Represents LADD to the public in a positive manner as appropriate.
Stays up to Date on industry practices and ensures appropriate ongoing training of current staff
Additional Responsibilities
- Serves as back-up to CFO when necessary (such as committee meetings, staff meetings, etc.) and provides backup for staff as needed
- Research opportunities to innovate department functions and outputs
- Hires and trains staff as necessary
Education/ Skill & Experience
- Acute understanding of and compliance with accounting rules and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or another related field
- 5 years of accounting experience - non-profit preferred; CPA is a plus
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus. simple reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and relevant accounting software platforms; advanced proficiency with spreadsheets
- Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partner
- Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and complete numerous time-sensitive projects
- Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers
- Ability and willingness to advocate for diversity, inclusion, and equity at all levels of the organization
Work Envirnment & Physical Demand
- Work schedule will normally be Monday through Friday and may include weekends and/or evenings.
- Job will include being in an office environment as well as remote sites; and may require travel to other locations.
