To grow our team in Detroit, we are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer / Operator with a strong technical background and expertise in the development and optimization of in process inspection, CMM programming and measurement of tight tolerance automotive components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and validate CMM equipment;
  • Identify and recommend appropriate gaging technology for specific features and tolerances;
  • Write and execute CMM programs, design and order fixturing for part layouts, capability studies, and first/last piece inspections for current and new products;
  • Perform CMM programming, setup, and analysis of both in process and finished products;
  • Maintain and generate all required documentation including inspection and discrepancy reports;
  • Attend training sessions as necessary for software updates and improvements;
  • Support Measurement System Analysis activities such as Gage R&Rs;
  • Write and edit CMM related procedures;
  • Perform sample layout and prepare reports in support of PPAP submissions;
  • Gather manufacturing defect data and support the team in identifying continuous improvement opportunities;
  • Document testing and root cause analysis;
  • Recognize and recommend potential savings and process improvements;
  • Support company quality manual and IATF16949 requirements in order to maintain compliance;
  • Maintain clean equipment and work area;
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • Minimum of five (5) years of CMM programming experience with knowledge of, and experience with, GD&T and Hand Tools (calipers, micrometers, pin gages, etc.);

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general blueprint interpretation;
  • Experience with PolyWorks strongly preferred;
  • Strong computer skills, attention to detail, and organization skills;
  • Motivated self-starter with innovative thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to set up inspection process, choose appropriate tools, and inspect parts with minimal or no supervision;
  • Desire to work in a team-based, lean-manufacturing environment;
  • Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate;
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift, as well as overtime, as required to meet business requirements.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear
  • Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • PolyWorks: 2 years (Preferred)
  • GD&T and CMM Programming: 5 years (Preferred)
