Overview
The Land Manager – Contract Position is responsible for achieving maximum value for Lafarge through the optimal utilization of land and resource assets, and managing land best practices and processes to support continued and expanded operations. This is a twelve (12) to eighteen (18) month contract position.
Responsibilities
- Understand, demonstrate and promote Lafarge’s safety culture through employee engagement and implementation of local and regional health and safety objectives.
- Manage land acquisition and divestment processes in coordination with the ECAN Land Director, Senior Land Manager and area General Managers.
- Manage all land use planning approvals for aggregate, ready mix concrete and cement properties, including provincial licences/permits and municipal Official Plan and Zoning By-Law amendments.
- Manage capital project budgets and external project consultants.
- Manage all agency and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide operational support to the business, including supporting area teams to ensure regulatory compliance with existing licences/permits and site plans, as well as collaborate on stripping, extraction, rehabilitation and circular economy planning.
- Manage the provincial approvals process for all licence and site plan amendments.
- Develop and manage relationships with all stakeholders, including neighbours, community groups, local organizations, environmental groups, First Nations, politicians and governmental agencies.
- Work with local area teams to promote and track corporate social responsibility initiatives.
- Negotiate and develop all land use agreements, including royalty, lease, licence and common property boundary agreements.
- Assist the Mining Plan Manager in the development of mining plans to ensure reserve optimization and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Support area teams in the planning, coordination and implementation of progressive stripping and rehabilitation plans that meets long-term objectives and is coordinated with site plans and mining plans.
- Ensure timely and accurate data on all Land related projects, and assist with the ongoing development, management and data input of the Lafarge Land Information System (LIS).
- Manage special projects on an as-needed basis as identified by the ECAN Land Director and Senior Land Manager
Relationships with Others Jobs:
- Reports to Senior Land Manager – East GTA, Eastern & Northern Ontario
- Works closely with the ECAN Land Director, area General Managers, and Operations/Plant Managers for Aggregates, Ready Mix Concrete and Cement
- Works closely with ECAN Land team members for coaching and to ensure consistent and effective land asset management, and support the needs of the market area to meet changing operational needs.
- Collaborates with other Functional teams, including Health and Safety, Environment, Manufacturing, Quality, and Strategy
Specific Accountabilities:
- Work safely at all times

- Provide operational support to maximize resource utilization and ensure regulatory compliance
- Develop and maintain solid stakeholder and agency relationships in collaboration with local area teams
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience:
- Relevant Post-Secondary education in land use planning, engineering, landscape architecture, geography, geology or similar field, and/or equivalent experience
- 2-3 years of work history in the management of land related activities, including experience in land use planning and/or resource management, preferably in the construction materials industry or similar industry
- Experience in community relations and giving public presentations
- Knowledge of and experience in interpreting laws, regulations, policies, agreements, and contracts related to property use, real estate matters, building & zoning, land rehabilitation, and associated issues.
- Experience in project management, including managing Requests for Proposals (“RFPs”), hiring and managing technical consultants, preparing capital project budgets, and maintaining project schedules.
