Overview
The Production Operator tends cement process and cement manufacturing and/or distribution machines, special purpose machines, or industrial robots to manufacture and distribute cement to specifications on a production basis in full awareness of safety, product quality, and optimum level of production.
Responsibilities
- Operates plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with environmental regulations and plant standards.
- Performs adjustments and minor repairs to equipment as required.
- Inspects plant equipment on a regular basis and prepares work orders as required.
- Performs diagnostic checks of plant equipment.
- Assists in programming as required.
- Performs calibration of equipment as required.
- Uses CMMS / DCS or other computerized management tools.
- Continually optimizes plant equipment and processes.
- Ensures that quality guidelines are met.
- Performs sample preparation, chemical and physical tests, microscopy and analysis.
- Operates mobile equipment as required.
- Works with other departments to solve operational problems.
- Inputs and reports operating statistics, incidents and equipment performance.
- Assists maintenance services in major Plant Turnaround.
- Maintains a clean work environment.
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
- Technical College graduate
- First Aid Certificate desirable
- Computer programming skills desirable
- Basic mechanical and/or electrical skills desirable
- Minimum 3-years work experience, preferably in process industry
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Other Skills:
Ability to work alone in situations where quick decisions must be made under pressure. Person must be a self-motivator. The applicant must demonstrate:

- The ability to operate light mobile equipment, motorized man lifts. and overhead cranes The capacity to work in the “B” Operator environment. (working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, discomfort, working with hazards – dust, flying particles, falling objects, equipment – shiftwork, stress)
- Knowledge of and adherence to all plant safety, quality, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardizedsituations.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humidconditions, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
