What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Officers (two positions) position at Lafayette College?

- The candidate is required to possess or obtain the Pennsylvania Act 235 training and certification
- The position demands excellent organizational skills as well as superior interpersonal skills, and an ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public
- Must submit to a background check, and upon conditional appointment, pass a medical examination, drug screen and psychological examination
Responsibilities
The Security Officer is charged with the security of life, limb, property, and equipment within the institution, the enforcement of all institution rules and regulations, and assisting Campus Police Officers in the enforcement of laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Federal Regulations.
- Perform routine patrols of the campus by vehicle and on foot. This includes patrols assigned by the Public Safety Command Staff which are listed on our “Directed Patrol” list and posted at headquarters.
- Provide for the necessary reporting of criminal activity
- Document any pertinent interactions and prepare reports in the dept’s record management system
- Provide for the security of all campus buildings and property by assisting in the locking of buildings and reporting any circumstances that present a danger to college students, employees, or property
- Direct traffic on College property for related events and emergencies
- Provide a variety of services including but not limited to: medical transports, motorist assists, money escorts, lock/unlock requests, responds to fire safety device activations
- Check for and report all suspicious activity, equipment malfunction, and other irregularities
- Assist with providing security at special events
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director, Chief, Lieutenant, Sergeant, or O.I.C
- Requires the ability to work multiple shifts and overtime as deemed necessary to provide coverage for all shifts and special events supervised by the Chief of Police or designee
- Tuition waivers for an employee’s spouse/domestic partner for undergraduate and Seminary courses
- Tuition waivers for an employee’s qualified dependent children, after the employee has completed two (2) years of service
- Tuition Benefit for qualified dependents after a minimum of five years of full-time service for undergraduate education at accredited institutions.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and valid driver’s license. Experience/training in security/safety or law enforcement preferred. Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training or the ability to be certified and community policing and training in de-escalation a plus.
