Lafayette Council on Aging (LCOA) is hiring multiple part-time Homemakers for elderly clients in Lafayette Parish. If you have a compassionate heart and a passion for service, this paid position might be what you're looking for.
Homemakers perform light housework in clients’ homes to make life more comfortable for the client who cannot do normal housework. Applicant must have the ability to relate to and work with older persons, and a genuine concern for and awareness of older persons and their problems.
This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. High School Diploma or equivalent G.E.D. Must be 18 or older.
Travel to clients’ homes is required. Travel to local trainings may also be required. Mileage is compensated at the rate of .65 per mile.
This job operates in the home of the person being cared for. Some paperwork is required. The Homemakers provide weekly service at a minimum of forty-five minutes (45) per client. Some work activities are:
- Wash dishes
- Change bed linens
- Sweep and/or mop floors
- Dust furniture and shelves
- Vacuum
- Clean bathroom
- Wash and/or dry laundry (for the client only)
- Shake excess dust from throw rugs
- Clean out refrigerator. Freezers will not be defrosted.
Applicant must pass a state criminal background check. Must have a good driving record, current driver’s license, and valid auto insurance (minimum limits as required by law).

Experience
- Previous experience in home care or senior care is preferred but not required.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients and their families.
