Title: Academic Coach for ELA
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent and Building-Level Principal
Position Overview
The Lafayette County School District is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Academic Coach for English Language Arts (ELA) to support the implementation of high-quality instruction and improve student outcomes in grades pre-K through sixth. This position plays a key role in providing instructional coaching, facilitating professional learning, and supporting curriculum alignment in ELA. The Academic Coach will work in partnership with teachers, school administrators, and district staff to ensure effective instructional practices and data-driven decision-making aligned with the district’s commitment to academic excellence for all students.
Qualifications
Training and Experience:
- Valid elementary teaching credential and a minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in the field of English Language Arts (ELA).
- Proficient in the use of computers and basic software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Knowledge of:
- District operations, including relevant policies, rules, and regulations.
- Curriculum design and effective instructional practices across all grade levels, pre-K through sixth grade.
- Grant writing processes and procedures.
- Student evaluation and assessment practices.
- Available community resources and their application to the educational setting.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, school sites, community members, and government agencies.
- Coordinate a wide range of activities across multiple school sites.
Coach and support instructional staff to promote continuous professional growth.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership to ensure a shared understanding and implementation of the district’s educational objectives.
- Promote the district's educational goals through effective collaboration with stakeholders.
- Monitor student progress toward academic goals and learning objectives.
- Collaborate with principals and instructional staff to ensure both horizontal and vertical alignment of the instructional program across the district.
Stay informed about current developments and trends in curriculum and instruction; use this knowledge to lead and recommend instructional improvements. - Assist in determining the direction of programs and enhancements to curriculum and instruction.
- Contribute to the development of educational specifications for facility remodeling or new construction as they pertain to instructional delivery.
- Serve as a liaison and actively participate in curriculum-related efforts at the local, state, and national levels.
- Effectively communicate and interpret the instructional program to the Board of Trustees, administrators, staff, and community members.
- Conduct and participate in educational research related to curriculum and instruction.
- Support the collection, analysis, and interpretation of assessment data.
- Facilitate the use of data to drive instructional planning and decision-making.
- Collaborate with the Curriculum Team to design, develop, and deliver professional development opportunities that align with the district’s vision and enhance student learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
200 days annually with salary to be established by the Board of Trustees
EVALUATION:
The performance of the Academic Coach for Reading and Language Arts will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of board policy and the Mississippi Department of Education Professional Growth Rubric.
