Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the operational integrity and safety of the facilities through comprehensive preventive maintenance, skilled repairs, and emergency response services. This position requires experience and general knowledge across multiple building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and safety equipment while maintaining high standards of workmanship and regulatory compliance. Working collaboratively with the facilities team, this role ensures optimal functioning of facility infrastructure while supporting a safe, comfortable environment for staff and clients. Through proactive maintenance, skilled troubleshooting, and efficient project execution, the Facilities Maintenance Technician contributes directly to the organization's ability to deliver uninterrupted services to the community. Through dedicated maintenance of safe, functional facilities, this position directly supports Lafayette House's mission of providing essential services to vulnerable populations by ensuring a reliable, secure environment for healing and recovery. This is an hourly, non-exempt position as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor with hours and schedule established to fulfill the role's responsibilities.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct systematic preventive maintenance inspections and servicing of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety equipment according to established schedules and manufacturer specifications.

2. Perform skilled diagnostic and repair work across multiple technical disciplines, addressing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues while ensuring minimal service disruption.

3. Respond to facility emergencies and after-hours calls, providing critical first-response services for system failures, safety concerns, and environmental issues.

4. Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and system upgrades, overseeing work quality and compliance with facility standards.

5. Maintain detailed documentation of all maintenance activities, equipment histories, and compliance requirements.

6. Execute general facility maintenance including painting, carpentry, door hardware maintenance, and basic construction projects as needed.

7. Manage ground maintenance activities including landscaping, snow removal, and exterior facility upkeep according to seasonal requirements.

8. Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring availability of critical materials while optimizing resource utilization.

9. Implement and maintain safety protocols in compliance with OSHA standards, including proper lockout/tagout procedures and safe handling of hazardous materials.

10. Support facility improvement projects through skilled technical assistance and project coordination as directed by supervisor.

11. Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Director of Facility Operations.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma, GED Certificate, or equivalent.

2. Minimum of three years' experience in facilities maintenance or related technical field.

3. Demonstrated proficiency in building systems maintenance including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry.

4. Strong working knowledge of safety regulations and maintenance best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Associate's degree or vocational certification in facilities maintenance, HVAC, or related technical field.

2. EPA certification for HVAC work.

3. OSHA safety certifications.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
