Position Overview
The Medical Billing and Collection Specialist plays a vital role in our clinic’s operations, ensuring accurate billing and timely submission of claims. You will be the backbone of our financial processes, helping to maintain our commitment to patient care through efficient billing practices. Your attention to detail and proactive communication will directly impact our ability to serve our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurate Billing & Claims Processing: Ensure all charges and payments are accurately entered into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, and process claims for various payer types (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance).
- Claim Management: Monitor the status of claims, conduct follow-ups on unpaid accounts, and analyze aging reports to identify and address issues promptly.
- Denial Research: Investigate claim rejections and denials, perform necessary corrections, and prepare appeals as required.
- Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare providers to clarify incomplete information and ensure smooth claim adjudication.
- Patient Interaction: Address billing inquiries from patients and third-party payers with professionalism and empathy, fostering a supportive patient experience.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of account activities, adjustments, and correspondence related to billing matters.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify trends in billing and reimbursement issues, providing insights to management for process enhancements.
- Professional Development: Stay current with healthcare regulations and billing practices through ongoing education and training.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of two years in a medical billing role within a healthcare setting; familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, particularly PrognoCIS and Advanced MD, is preferred.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, insurance guidelines, and billing regulations.
- Skills: Excellent organizational and time management abilities; critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members and patients.
