ART TEACHER (Long-Term Substitute Art Teacher)

Art Teaching Position Summary

Everett Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to join our creative educational team. The Art Teacher should demonstrate expertise and knowledge in a range of 2-D & 3-D art techniques, skills and media. The Art Teacher is responsible for utilizing pedagogical strategies to engage diverse groups of students in grades K-12 through visual
arts. The Art Teacher will have a genuine passion for fostering and growing students’ artistic talents and self-confidence through visual arts.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging, hands-on art lessons and curriculum for all learners including students with disabilities and multilingual learners aligned with Massachusetts DESE Visual Art Frameworks, district’s art curriculum, and the
district’s goals.
- Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st-century skills.
- Encourage student creativity and engage students through content and lessons relevant to their lives and interests.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes creativity, experimentation, and self- expression.
- Manage and maintain art supplies and materials.

 

Student Engagement & Support:


- Manage classroom behavior with positive behavior intervention strategies and social- emotional learning strategies that motivate students to create a positive learning culture.
- Create and maintain a positive, safe, and organized classroom environment that supports an inclusive learning environment and a strong sense of belonging.
- Encourage and support students’ artistic growth and development through individualized attention.
- Provide opportunities for students to participate in art exhibitions, competitions, and community and school art events.
- Collaborate with guidance counselors and school adjustment counselors to refer students who need social-emotional support.
- Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review education plans and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.

- Collaborate and co-plan with Special Education and EL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and Multilingual Learners.
- Assess the needs of students and evaluate student progress towards standards and benchmarks.
- Maintain a culturally responsive approach to communication with students, student counselors, and families on a regular basis through conferences, quarterly reports, and other means.

 

Professional Culture, Collaboration & Professional Development:


- Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to students needs.
- Maintain excellent communication skills and foster positive professional relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Create and manage ongoing student in-person and virtual art exhibits.
- Work with K-12 art teachers to facilitate the annual Community Arts Night event.
- Attend all building and department meetings.
- Participate in all department and building professional activities.
- Support the building and Art Department climate that the Principal, Assistant /Vice Principals and Art Coordinator establish by supporting all building, district, and Art Department policies.

 

Required Qualifications:
- Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching certification in Visual Arts, PreK-8 & 5-12.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts DESE Visual Art Frameworks instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students, emphasizing building strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process.
- Ability to collect, interpret, and disseminate data to teachers to improve instruction and learning.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English.
- Exhibits positivity and excitement, is receptive to feedback, and contributes positively to the Art Department and school community.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
- Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to adjustments of practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience teaching art in a school setting.
- Presentation of art & teaching portfolio and philosophy.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
- Massachusetts DESE teaching certification in teaching students with disabilities.
- Experience in teaching expressive arts or non-clinical art therapy approaches.

- Experience working with students with disabilities including students on the autism spectrum and students with emotional disabilities.
- Experience teaching 2-D & 3-D visual art K-12 such as: drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media.

 

Coverage:
This position is needed to cover an Art Teacher who is on leave until June 2025.

 

Salary:
Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association.
