JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: BUS MONITOR
Qualifications
- Criminal record check / driving record check.
- In-service training as determined by the Supervisor of Transportation.
- Specialized training as determined by the Transportation Department and or student needs.
Reports to: Supervisor of Transportation
Domain 1: Specific Job Duties
- Have concern for the SAFETY and WELFARE of the children.
- Assists bus operator with thorough pre-trip, in-route and post- trip checks on the vehicle and its special equipment.
- Be on the bus at all times during the bus route, except as authorized by the transportation department.
- Occupies a seat on the bus where student riders can easily be assisted and monitored.
- Completes and submit required reports within specified time lines.
- Maintains orderly conduct of passengers and ensure to the extent possible that passengers follow all local and state rules and regulations.
- Ensures that required protective safety devices are in use and are fastened properly.
- Assists students on and off the bus at school, at designated bus stops, and otherwise when it is necessary for their safe entrance and exit from the bus.
- Arranges for a substitute bus attendant in the event the regularly assigned attendant must be absent, unless local procedures specify otherwise.
- Assists operator to maintain a safe and clean school transportation environment.
- Assists operator to properly and timely document and report instances to appropriate personnel.
- Properly monitors and manages student behavior on board school bus.
- Attends to the special needs of monitor-required student.
- Ensures that students not leave the bus anywhere other than their assigned stops.
- Assists operator to properly and timely document and report incidents to appropriate personnel.
- Operates special equipment, assistive devices, or special occupant restraints.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or by Superintendent.

- Establishes and maintains appropriate respectful, harmonious relationship with administration, school faculty, other employees, students, vendors, and the general public.
- Observes professional ethics as prescribed by the employee's profession/craft and in accordance with state law and board policy (GAl Solicitations, GAIB Solicitations of Staff Members, GAJ, Gifts).

- Maintains the confidentiality of all School Board business by refraining from accessing discussing or disclosing anything outside the scope of employment unless authorized by immediate supervisor.
- Participates in appropriate professional growth activities, which may include participation in seminars, conferences, workshops for improvement of knowledge and skills.
Domain 3: Communication
- Understands, interprets and follows written and verbal instructions from immediate supervisor and gives clear written and oral instructions to others as required.
- Accurately compiles data, summarizes information and provides written reports when required.
- Answers the telephone and receives visitors in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Follows the chain of command for various administrative procedures.
- Communicates in a professional manner both verbally and non-verbally.
Domain 4: Attendance and Punctuality
- Reports to work at the assigned time.
- Attends work consistently.
- Contacts Supervisor and/or designee when absent in compliance with district policy.
- Departs from work at the assigned time.
- Uses leave appropriately and completes appropriate documentation.
- Signs in and out using the employee time clock system in compliance with district policy.
Domain 5: Safety
- Completes task in a safe manner as prescribed by the Safety Department or by the employee's profession/craft.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work environment.
- Dresses appropriately for the job assigned and in compliance with state law and board policy GAMB Employee Dress Code.
- Displays employee ID tag at all times while on duty.
- Reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate personnel.
- Reports any incidents of injury or damage immediately to the appropriate official in compliance with policy EGAA Workers’ Compensation.
- Complies with policies GAMA Employee Tobacco Use and GAMD Drug-Free Workplace when on duty.
Terms of Employment
180 Days
There shall be a probationary period of 90 days from date of employment for new employees. After 90 days, a decision based upon an evaluation will be rendered in regards to the employee’s status as a permanent employee.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of non-instructional personnel.
The Superintendent reserves the right to change the job and any other duties, as required, with advance written notification.
METHOD OF EVALUATION
The combination of the applicable measure of growth in student learning and the qualitative assessment of performance competencies and standards shall result in a composite score used to distinguish levels of overall effectiveness.
