LaGrange College Salary
LAGRANGE, GA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/7/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/7/2025

LaGrange College seeks to fill tenure-track at the assistant professor level in Religious Studies beginning August 1, 2025. The field of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach Ethics and Bioethics.

LaGrange College seeks to attract ethnic, racial, and gender diverse candidates who may present different levels of experience and perspectives. If you embrace the LaGrange College values of excellence, service, diversity, civility, and inclusion, and are committed to modeling those attributes in our community, we invite you to submit your application for consideration.

A Ph.D. in religious studies or related field is required, although outstanding ABD candidates will be considered.  The successful candidate must have their terminal degree completed prior to the end of their second year in the position.

The teaching load is four (4) courses per semester, including introductory courses, upper-level electives in the candidate’s field(s) of specialization, and courses that satisfy the college’s general education curriculum, known as Ethos.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help revitalize the major in religion and help create interdisciplinary approaches to critical analyses of American culture and society.  The position includes the supervision and mentorship of undergraduate research projects in the field.  Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, professional development, and institutional service, as well as an understanding of, and appreciation for, the mission of liberal arts institutions.

The religion program maintains a close relationship with the Candler School of Theology at Emory University; students interested in a future ministry career will find a direct and accelerated pathway from LaGrange College to the Candler School.  Through both a solid grounding in theory and engagement in the field (via internships, collaborative undergraduate research, and other opportunities) Religious Studies students receive a thorough, intensive, and experiential education in the discipline. The program’s historic engagement in LaGrange College’s undergraduate research program affords students the opportunity to work directly with faculty on research projects that build their professional skills.

Interested candidates should visit https://lagrangecollege.applicantstack.com/x/openings to apply for the position and to view other positions available at the college. Required documents include:

  • A letter of interest describing the alignment of the candidate’s qualifications with the position requirements
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • A statement of teaching philosophy
  • A diversity statement describing the candidate’s experience with, and advocacy for, diversity, equity, and inclusion activities in the classroom and on campus
  • A statement of scholarly interests
  • Graduate and undergraduate transcripts (copies are fine at this point)
  • Contact information (only) for three professional references

LaGrange College is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other legally protected status.

Applications received by November 30 will receive full consideration, although the review of applications will continue until the position is filled. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a background check as a prerequisite for the position.  Any questions about the position should be addressed to officeoftheVPAA@lagrange.edu.  This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
