Laguna College of Art Design is seeking a full-time experienced Director of Safety Security. The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Art, Illustration, and Entertainment Design.
Position Summary:
The Director of Safety Security has 24/7 responsibility for providing and promoting a safe and secure environment for the LCAD community, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors, on all campuses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts foot and mobile security patrols of all campus property. Identifies and detains violators to turn over to proper authorities.
- Conducts initial investigation of incidents and files written reports as required.
- Respond to all calls for service including lockouts, escorts, noise complaints, etc., in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
- Respond to all medical emergencies, provides emergency medical care as appropriate, and contacts emergency responders such as police, fire and/or ambulance personnel as required.
- Observes, investigates, and reports any safety or hazards present on campus.
- Oversees campus protocol policies for emergency evacuations and threats on campus.
- Manages security camera operations and security camera release of footage policies.
- Escorts the homeless off campus and reports problems to the Laguna Beach Police Department.
- Reviews relevant federal and state campus security and safety laws, and writes and implements safety and security policies for campus compliance, such as the Clery Act, Campus Save Act, VAWA, Title IX, and others.
- Tracks Clery Act crime statistics, maintains a daily security log, and files required reports.
- Administers all campus timely warnings, emergency notifications, and OMNILERT communications.
- Enforces parking regulations including the distribution of LCAD parking permits.
- Responsible for managing keys, the access control system, and alarm code.
- Implements and oversees the front desk for campus visitor check-in and lanyards program.
- Develops a thorough knowledge of all campuses.
- Assists with providing security and safety training orientation for new incoming students each semester.
- Serves as the vendor primary point of contact for all alarm and access control systems.
- Reviews shift reports and provides immediate follow up; serves as a liaison with the municipal fire department, police department, and other outside agencies.
- Work with faculty, staff, and students to ensure safe conditions are maintained and audit all department and classroom activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and LCAD policies.
- Administer and enforce health and safety programs; monitor, update, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and processes; and implement policies and procedures to meet federal, state, and local statutes and guidelines.
- Coordinate with the Office of Human Resources on the maintenance of the Injury, Illness, and Prevention Program including revisions, distribution, and training.
- Manage SDS hazardous materials including maintenance of Safety Data Sheets database, auditing, conducting safety inspections, regular review, and revision of policy and training.
- Manage the Environmental Health Safety Committee including conducting regular meetings; preparation and distribution of meeting minutes; and coordination of training such as first aid, CPR, and AED.
- Coordinate regular fire safety, earthquake, active shooter, and other emergency drills.
- Creates safety signage.
- Coordinates third-party services.
- Ensures safety compliance.
- Creates 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year plans for the Environmental Health Safety system.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred, or commensurate education and experience.
Experience
- Minimum of seven years of experience in a leadership role in an educational environment preferred.

Licenses
Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and carry automobile insurance coverage. Automobile insurance coverage must meet minimum liability insurance requirements for private passenger vehicles. Although not required, it is recommended to have the following insurance limits: bodily injury liability insurance coverage of at least $50,000 per person/$50,000 per accident and property damage liability of $5,000 per accident.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees a security team.
Position Requirements

- Must complete and pass SB1626 training.
- Must hold a valid California driver’s license.
- Must maintain an excellent driving record and participate in an ongoing DMV driving record background check.

Regular business hours for the College are Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Regular hours may vary based on the College’s needs and type of position. Weekend and evening hours may be required. Travel will be required.

Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $114,000.00 per year
Background Check:
