The Camp Assistant Manager plays a vital role in supporting the Camp Director by ensuring the smooth operation of the camp. The position involves assisting in the organization and execution of daily activities, monitoring campers and staff, overseeing the food & beverage operation, fielding any membership complaints that pertain to the camp, and promoting a safe and enjoyable environment for the membership. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about outdoor activities, actively engage with children, have experience in food & beverage, and be ready to take on leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Member Experience: Deliver exceptional service to members and guests, guiding staff in providing excellent member service and hospitality.
- Information Assistance: Assist members and guests by providing information about day camps, aquatics, recreational activities and more.
- Administrative Duties: This includes tasks such as verifying staff hours, scheduling, manually entering member’s usage, resolving conflicts, accountability and more.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of Club rules, regulations, and guidelines, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Active Participation: Actively engaging camp and recreation activities with campers, ensuring a fun and inclusive experience.
- Camp Leadership: Support camp leaders in planning, supervising, and leading daily activities with campers, enhancing their overall experience.
- Self-Awareness: Recognizing and understanding personal emotions and their impact on behavior and decisions. The ability to self-reflect and manage one’s emotions effectively in a high-pressure situation is essential.
- Empathy: Being attuned to the emotions of campers and staff, demonstrating genuine concern and understanding for their experiences. The ability to recognize non-verbal cues and respond appropriately to the needs of the individuals in various emotional states is critical.
- Social Skills: Facilitating open communication and collaboration among campers and staff, creating an inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation and connection. Strong interpersonal skills are vital for building rapport and trust with children, parents, members and staff.
- Facility maintenance: Oversee the cleanliness of all camp facilities, including daily stocking and cleaning of bathrooms, vacuuming, mopping, raking, and more to ensure a tidy environment.
- Motivation: Exhibiting intrinsic motivation and a positive attitude that inspires and energizes others. A passion for mentoring and guiding campers during their experiences contributes to a thriving community at the camp.
Kids Camp Requirements:
- Experience in Child Supervision: Proven experience in supervising children in a camp or educational setting, always ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Activity Planning and Coordination: Ability to plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate activities that engage and entertain campers while promoting teamwork and inclusion.
- Safety and Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with child safety protocols and emergency procedures to ensure a secure environment for all participants.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with campers, parents, and staff, providing clear instructions and feedback.
- Positive Role Model: Ability to embody and promote positive behavior and values, serving as a role model for campers in both activities and interactions.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Competence in monitoring camper’s activities and behavior, assessing their needs, and reporting any issues or concerns to the Camp Director and appropriate staff in a timely manner.
- Group Management: Skills in managing diverse groups of children, promoting respectful interactions, and addressing any disputes or behavioral issues with care and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Background Check clearance prior to employment.
- Minimum of 2 years working with children in an educational and/or similar club setting.
- Minimum of 2 years working in a food & beverage environment.
- Minimum of 2 years working in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Capability to safely retrieve individuals from the swimming pool (children or adults).
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Capability to sit for up to 3 hours at a time.
- The ability to walk and stand for up to 3 hours at a time.
- Ability to bend, kneel, grip, and carry as required by job duties.
- Current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification (Training can be provided).
- Experienced in Microsoft Office, Excel, Paycom, Jonus and Foretees a plus.
Availability:
- Candidates must be available between 32 to 40 hours per week, beginning in early May through early September and include weekends, days/evenings and holidays. Please note there will be no time off granted during the month of July.
