Position Overview
Laird Law Firm is expanding and is currently seeking an experienced Advanced Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our team and provide comprehensive support to our legal professionals. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the legal or banking field. A four year degree in English, business, or a related field is required, with paralegal or banking experience preferred. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can manage complex tasks with minimal supervision and play an integral role in ensuring the efficiency of legal operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide advanced administrative and legal support to attorneys, including drafting and reviewing legal documents such as estate plans, business documents, pleadings, contracts, and discovery.
- Participate in client meetings to learn of client needs, desires, and objectives.
- Develop plans that further client estate planning or business succession planning initiatives.
- Analyze and summarize bank or business documents, including financial statements, promissory notes, collateral documents, and bank-to-bank agreements.
- Organize and manage case files, preparing and maintaining legal documentation for hearings, trials, and mediations.
- Communicate with clients, business partners, opposing counsel, and experts to ensure smooth project progression.
- Monitor project timelines and ensure critical deadlines are met.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and manage documents securely.
- Track and manage billing and timekeeping for the legal team.
- Provide general administrative support, including corresponding with related parties and scheduling meetings.
- Provide training and mentorship to other legal assistants.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in English, business, or a related field required.
- Minimum of five years of legal or banking experience.
- Paralegal certification (preferred but not required).
- Strong proficiency in legal writing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with clients, attorneys, and other legal professionals in a professional manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with changes in laws and regulations.
Location: Mason City, Clear Lake or Waverly, Iowa (candidate's choice)
Salary: $70,000.00-$75,0000
