JOIN OUR TEAM AS A HEALTH INFORMATION CODER (Medical Records)!
Monday – Friday: 7:30am-4:00pm OR 8:00am-4:30pm
**This is not a remote position. On site in Waukegan, IL**
Your Work Matters How will you make a difference?
The Health Information Coder is responsible for accurate medical coding for inpatient and outpatient services, diagnostic tests and other medical services rendered to each patient, ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws, rules/regulations of licensing agencies and within the Joint Commission standards for the quality of patient care.
- Comply with all legal requirements regarding coding procedures and practices
- Conduct audits and coding reviews to ensure all documentation is accurate and precise
- Assign and sequence all codes for services rendered
- Collaborate with billing department to ensure all bills are satisfied in a timely manner
- Communicate with insurance companies about coding errors and disputes
- Submit statistical data for analysis and research by other departments
- Contact physician and other health care professionals with questions about treatments or diagnostic tests given to patients with regard to coding procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records, ensuring the release of files and/or records to
only appropriate and authorized authorities. - Inform all facility staff of confidentiality policies pertaining to medical records, and remain
current on all laws and regulations regarding confidentiality of patient/medical information. - Ensure effective organization and completion of assignments.
- Respond to inter-departmental and external inquiries and questions.
- Follow through with the preparation and/or revisions to medical record, forms, ensuring compliance with all requirements of The Joint Commission, applicable state and federal laws, Bylaws and Rules/Regulations.
- Prepare as requested statistical reports for Director of Health Information Management.
- Assist in the abstraction and analysis of data from the medical record for medical care evaluation studies, patterns of patient care and Performance Improvement.
The working environment is a hospital setting, collaborating with medical staff and administrative teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care and compliance with health information management practices.
Your Experience Matters What we’re looking for:
Education: High school diploma or GED and equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree is preferred but not required.
Experience: Minimum five years of medical coding experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years of medical in the mental health and chemical dependency field preferred. Thorough knowledge of medical records coding and medical terminology required.
Licensure: RHIT/RHIA/CSS credential through AHIMA or CPC through AAPC

Compensation:
