Occupational Therapist
Department: Physical Rehab Location: Lake Charles, LAPhysical Rehab Ancillary Occupational Therapist
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- The Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats inpatients referred for Occupational Therapy. Prepares reports and communicates patient's progress to appropriate individuals.
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Director of Physical Medicine
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Completes documentation outcome measures for evaluations, daily, weekly progress notes and discharge summaries as required by IRF regulations.
- Assesses the functional needs of the patient and sets appropriate goals for that patient.
- Provides direct patient care; evaluates outcomes; and consults with other specialists, as needed.
- Provides patient/family with options for adaptive equipment.
- Oversees the care of all assigned patients and all care givers rendering such care, including support staff, volunteers and students.
- Promotes independence for Activities of Daily Living tasks.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- BS, MS or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Satisfactory completion of the examination by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- CPR certification.
- The necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.
- Current licensure to practice Occupational Therapy in state of Louisiana; Must maintain required hours of in-service per year to meet requirements for CEU's as stipulated by the State Board that governs the profession of Occupational Therapy.
- Ability to communicate well with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work is medium, preferably up to 50 pounds of lifting or carrying without help or over 50 pounds with help. Included is handling patients of all weights, with help as needed, to perform transfers, bed mobility, getting into equipment, and getting into and out of clothing.
- Positions required include standing and walking on a frequent basis; sitting, kneeling, and stair climbing on an occasional basis; stooping and bending on a frequent basis to assist patients; overhead reach on occasional basis; pushing/pulling on a frequent basis including wheelchairs, and pulling or tugging on patients.
