Radiation Oncology Radiation Therapist
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION :
- Operates the linear accelerator, simulate patients in CT scanner and / or on treatment machine, perform basic calculations according to the prescription set by the Radiation Oncologist in an accurate and timely manner.
SUPERVISION : Reports directly to the Director of Radiation Oncology
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Operate all equipment associated with the linear accelerator and / or CT scanner including software, quality assurance equipment, accessories and warm-up equipment.Administer radiation to patients in an accurate and timely manner according to the prescription of the radiation oncologist.Communicates issues in regard to safety, patient, and / or uncomplicated tasks to peers, supervisors, and subordinates as appropriate.Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Ability to read, analyze, interpret complex scientific and technical journal, financial reports and legal documents.Responds to complex inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Work well with cancer patients and their families.Perform basic hand calculations.Enter information into record and Verify system.Maintain workload without unnecessary patient wait to start treatment.Perform other duties as directed by Administrative Director.Assist all others in department as needed.Understand the basics of radiation physics and apply those principles in the clinical setting.The above statements are only meant to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy technology program.2-3 years experience preferred.Experience with Varian Accelerators, Mosaiq Record and Verify preferred.Advanced computer skills.Registered by ARRT, Licensed by the State of Louisiana and / or board eligible. Maintain continuing Education Requirements.CPR certification required.Physical Demands / Work Environment
The physical demands differ according to job responsibilities. Required to stay in a stationary positions as well as ability to move around. The ability to position ones self and / or move equipment is normally required.The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk or radiation.The employee occasionally is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.Ability to do shift work is required.Occasionally will need to be able to transport items 20 pounds or more.Frequently you will be required to move 1-20 pounds.
