Radiologic Technologist
Department: Radiology Location: Lake Charles, LARadiologic Technologist
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- Radiologic Technologist works with as part of a team including the Chief Technologist, Administrative Director, and Radiologists to provide a high standard of care to all of our patients using diagnostic imaging examinations. The Radiologic Technologist will prepare patients and equipment for radiology procedures, performs the tests, and maintains the equipment.
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Diagnostic Chief Tech
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current radiology practices.
- Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
- Ensure proper sterilization, maintaining radiographic equipment and reporting any equipment failures.
- Calibrate the equipment to ensure clear, usable images are taken of the correct area, as specified by the doctor.
- Able to manipulate all Radiographic equipment including Paragon, CR, and PACS
- Cleans and stocks assigned area.
- Properly identifies self/Properly identifies patient using two identifiers.
- Reviews physician orders and ensures correct exam is ordered.
- Obtains and documents pertinent patient history.
- Monitor patients and ensure their safety during imaging procedures.
- Position patients and equipment to capture the correct area and produce clear images
- Prepare and educate patients about the imaging procedure
- Key commands and data into computer to document.
- Review patients' chart for imaging procedure.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma required;
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Radiology or Radiologic Technology
- Registered Radiographer with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists preferred, or registry eligible.
- Current La state licensure for professional imaging technologists
- Must maintain required hours of in-service per year to meet requirements for CEU's as stipulated by the AART.
- Experience in providing direct patient care. Physician office setting desirable
- Computer literacy
- Previous experience working in certain specialty areas may be desirable
- Preferred but not required: CPR (lifesaver) certified
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate and understand radiologic technology and equipment.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be adaptable to change.

- Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
- The work environment may be physically confining.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
