What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investigator position at Lake County Department of Utilities?
The Water Investigator is responsible for inspecting and troubleshooting meters, functionality, and related apparatuses.
Essential Job Functions :
General meter investigations, turns water on or off for new accounts, title transfers, non-payment and for repairs. Installs and changes meters for new accounts, broken and leaking meters and to update old meters.
Solves customer complaints that include but are not limited to : high consumption, no water or low pressure, leaking meters and discolored water.
- Reads residential and commercial water meters for final and period end readings and quarterly readings for billing.
- Maintains vehicle by replacing tools and parts needed to complete the job. Informs supervisor of service and repairs needed on the vehicle.
- Assists supervisor as needed with training of new meter readers and investigators. Schedules and assigns work in supervisors absence.
Minimum Qualifications :
Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED. A valid Ohio Driver's license with a safe driving record and a drug screening are required.
One (1) year experience as a Water Meter Reader or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Applicants should have experience in meter installation and replacement; be able to multi-task, problem solve and have the ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
Basic computer skills, dependability, skilled in reading, writing, math, and effective customer service both verbal and written are preferred.
This position may require overtime, shift, weekend and holiday work, as well as flexible hours and rotating days.

Begins at $20.32 / hr.
