Lake County Public Works is a sewer and water provider to 40% of Lake County residents and owns, operates, and maintains more than 750 miles of pipe, three water reclamation facilities, more than 100 pump stations, an excess flow facility and a 1-mile-long levee. This Assistant Supervisor Engineer position in Public Works it to perform highly complex work in advanced civil engineering of a supervisory or administrative nature and assist Supervisor Engineer with any necessary function and serve in place of the Supervisor Engineer.
Essential Functions
- Oversee a permitting and construction services workgroup
- Enhance the permit software to streamline processes and improve customer communications
- Serve as internal control for the permit process
- Consider appeals of the ordinances and make recommendations
- Ensure consistency with revenue capture, including connection fee revenue
- Oversee contract construction
- Supervise capital improvements and maintenance for sewer and water projects
- Approve various construction paperwork
- Monitor project budgets
- Directs technical personnel in the design and construction of public works projects
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required
- Requires over eight years of related experience with at least four years of progressively professional engineering experience
- Requires comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering related to the preparation of plans and specifications for a wide variety of projects
Education and/or Other Requirements:
- Requires education or training equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Requires a certificate as a Registered Professional Engineer issued by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
