DOT Facilities Operator

General Description

Your day will consist of planned and unplanned building, fuel island, and grounds maintenance, scheduling and assisting with various inspections, and other project work on campus. In addition, this position performs essential snow and ice control operations and will be on a 24 hour on-call status from November 15 - April 15. The regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 am until 3:00 pm. Must be available to respond to other building related emergencies after hours throughout the year. This position is a member of Local 150 Operators Union and reports to the Fleet and Facilities Manager.

Essential Functions

• Operate snowplow trucks with plows and salt spreaders
• Load and spread salt and deicing materials
• Participate in winter operation preparation
• Repair of the building equipment including but not limited to boilers, HVAC, air handlers, rooftop units, building automation units, medium voltage switchgear, diesel generators, UPS, pumps, elevators, motors, compressors, fire detection/suppression, and building monitoring systems
• General building maintenance such as carpentry and plumbing
• Work from ladders or scaffolding
• Perform difficult physical labor and work under extreme weather conditions
• Plan and complete buildings and grounds projects
• All duties are performed in accordance with the County safety code and established safe work practices

• Ability to operate and understand computers and software used at the DOT
• Stationary Engineer license preferred
• Other licenses a plus

Education and Other Requirements

• Completion of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent
• Six years or more of experience in facility maintenance, mechanical equipment, and a variety of building/maintenance trades
• Ability to obtain a Class B Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes; Class A Preferred within six months of being hired
• Requires a satisfactory driving record

Physical Requirements

• Individual should have the ability to perform difficult physical labor and to regularly lift and/or carry objects weighing 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds

• The position is exposed to extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife; vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery; electrical shock; heights and other extreme hazards
