General Description
The Temp Water Quality Specialist is a valuable member to our Environmental health team who with minimal supervision, assists in field investigations and office activities relative to development and application of limnological and lake restoration principles. Job duties may include calibration and maintenance of sampling equipment, collection of water samples from lakes and streams, collection of water samples at beaches for bacteriological analysis, monitoring water quality parameters in lakes and streams, aquatic plant surveys, data entry, and other tasks as assigned.
Scheduled Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Essential Functions
- Calibrates and maintains sampling equipment.
- Collects water samples from lakes, streams and beaches for bacteriological analysis.
- Prepares documentation for samples collected.
- Monitors water quality parameters in lakes and streams.
- Conducts aquatic plant surveys.
- Performs data entry.
- Assists in laboratory activities in support of the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.
- Assists in office activities in support of the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.
- Performs simple field tests.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required
- Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in a two or four year program with an emphasis on environmental science, biology or closely related field.
- Requires the ability to work both indoors and outdoors and in variable conditions.
- This position also requires occasional exertion and moderately strenuous physical activity.
- This position requires occasional interaction with Spanish speaking clients who have a limited understanding of the English language or who may speak only Spanish.
- Some knowledge of inspections, sampling and laboratory analysis applicable to environmental assessments.
