POSITION TITLE: Merrillville Branch Librarian
GRADE LEVEL: P-8
SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Head of Merrillville Branch
DEPARTMENT: Merrillville
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Salary or Hourly
POSITION PURPOSE
Provide library service to the public.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan, publicize and implement programs
- Supervise, instruct, schedule and evaluate assigned staff
- Provide reference, reader’s advisory and instructional services in individual and group settings using print and electronic sources
- Promoting library collections, technology and services through presentations, programs, and displays
- Promote library services through outreach activities such as school and community visits
- Collection Development of the reference and circulating collection, through selecting and weeding; including the Indiana, Genealogy and Periodical collections
- Assist patrons in selecting, locating and using library materials
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the physical security and maintenance of library and its equipment
- Train staff in all branch and ILS procedures
- Maintain discipline and order in the library
- Perform circulation related functions as needed
- Develop bibliographies, fliers, and brochures as needed
- Substitute at branches as needed
- Coordinate system-wide reports and statistics as assigned
- Participate in professional meetings and workshops
- Work a schedule that includes weekends and nights
- Responsible for verifying that work time recorded on time sheets matches work time listed on official schedule
- Perform all other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:
- ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree or related field
- Indiana Library Certificate III or higher is required within 6 months of employment
- 2 years of work experience is required
- Library experience desirable

- Outreach events may be conducted within the library facilities or at various community locations
- A valid driver’s license is required
