What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist - Substance Abuse Program position at Lake County?
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is

- Monday-Friday (8:am-4:30pm)
- Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses regarding recovery.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments, court appointments, DCFS meetings, 12-step meetings, and other activities that are supportive of their recovery.
- Educate community institutions or state agencies and social services staff regarding the screening and referral of at-risk individuals to treatment.
- Provides community intervention which includes crisis intervention, and case finding to identify individuals in need of service including in-reach and outreach to targeted populations or individuals not admitted to treatment.
- Assist potential clients through the intake process, referrals, and connection with LCHD services as well as outside services.
- A high school diploma, G.E.D. certificate required.
- Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) required, or obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Requires one year of direct and personal experience with the mental health system as a primary consumer of services.
- Requires valid driver’s license and insurance.
