What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Plan Reviewer position at Lake County?
This position will involve skilled plan review work in securing and maintaining compliance with building codes and ordinances for residential and commercial projects.
- Examine plans and specifications for new construction, additions, and alterations to residential and commercial buildings to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable construction codes.
- Perform work with independent judgment and action within the framework of existing rules and regulations.
- Attend and participate in meetings; and training as needed to stay apprised of new industry trends and innovations, including construction code changes.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related area of study; OR High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience in plan review, design, engineering, inspections, and/or building construction.
- Working knowledge of the International Codes and applicable local codes. Must have the ability to obtain the Commercial Building Plans Examiner and Residential Plans Examiner Certification as offered by the International Code Council (ICC) within the first year of employment.
- Ability to understand and interpret building codes, state statutes, and local ordinances as they relate to plans and specifications for residential, multi-family, and commercial structures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively when responding to citizens and/or contractor’s building code questions.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work well with other inspectors and plan reviewers to accomplish department goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related area of study or high school diploma supplemented by vocational and technical courses in the building trades with considerable experience in the building trades as a contractor, superintendent, foreman, inspector, or plan reviewer; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. International Code Council (ICC) commercial and residential plan reviewer’s certification preferred.
- Certification or License: Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
- The required work will involve sitting for extended periods of time, standing or walking, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis, and high dexterity in operating office equipment, including a keyboard, phone, etc.
- The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision and the ability to hear and speak to understand, respond to, and build relationships with a diverse clientele.
