What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Enforcement Inspector position at Lake County?
An enforcement professional employed by Lake County that specializes in the investigation, and enforcement of codes, violations, and laws. The Inspector ensures that businesses and people are in compliance with property maintenance and use, public health and safety, business activities, building standards, and more.
Depending on the assignment, the incumbent will perform a combination of the following responsibilities, and perform related duties as assigned:
- Responsible for securing compliance with Building Codes, Nuisance, and related ordinances by conducting inspections and working with residents, contractors, and the department staff of Lake County Planning, Building & Development
- Perform property inspections, carrying out routine duties in support of the County Enforcement Program, and respond to citizen inquiries or reported complaints
- Responsible for investigating alleged violations of the County Nuisance Code, Building Codes, and the Zoning Ordinance
- Evaluate and document site conditions, and conditions of structures, and property and write reports
- Attempt to contact homeowners or occupant of the property to provide notification, discuss violations and recommend compliance actions
- Communicate/Coordinate with staff in various departments and provide updates to all parties involved in the Enforcement program
- Perform field inspections and document site conditions, minor office detail, and work with residents and contractors on resolution of violations
General knowledge of the standards, practices, tools and terminology in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and code compliance
Working knowledge of computer technology such as an iPad to perform work – training will be provided
Ability to effectively communicate and problem solve with residents
Ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Highschool diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s License supplemented by a satisfactory driving record
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION
Requires sedentary work, involving standing or walking some of the time. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis. High dexterity in operating office equipment, including a keyboard, phone, copier, etc.
The position is exposed to traffic; moving machinery; bright/dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme heat and/or cold; or wet or humid conditions. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision and the ability to hear and speak to understand, respond to, and build relationships with a diverse clientele.
