Lake Forest Community High School is seeking a Part-Time Social Studies Teacher (0.5 FTE)

DESCRIPTION: Lake Forest High School has a 0.5 FTE part-time Social Studies teacher opening for the 2025-26 school year. We are seeking an individual who establishes a strong culture of learning and engages students in challenging content through well-designed learning tasks and activities. The role demands a professional who not only has an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, but also a high level of instructional skill and a commitment to every student's academic growth and achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience and Licensure:

• Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Social Science-History endorsement
• Additional Social Science endorsements in Economics - required
• Additional English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsements - valued

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.
• Demonstrate exceptional content knowledge and pedagogical skill in history and the social sciences, with the ability to adapt instruction to suit a diverse range of student backgrounds and interests.
• Employ effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with students, faculty, and parents, to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
• Facilitate a classroom environment that encourages student collaboration and discourse, enhancing the learning experience for all.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and refine course learning objectives, common assessments, and curricula.
• Participate in team-based approaches to student remediation and the continuous enhancement of instructional practices.
• Partner with Special Education and Student Services to meet the needs of identified students.
• Use technology proficiently and ethically for planning, collaboration, instruction, and assessment.

Competencies:

• Strong foundational knowledge in Social Studies.
• Skills in fostering a classroom environment in which the lives and needs of all students are validated, recognized, and appreciated.
• Skills in differentiating instruction to meet the varied needs and interests of students.
• Skills in mentoring students, particularly those with multilingual backgrounds, to develop literacies and a sense of community within the classroom.
• Use of collaboration and professional development toward the improvement of teaching practices and outcomes for students.

Preferred Characteristics:

• Proven track record of successfully collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development, the alignment curriculum with standards, and the implementation of effective instructional practices.
• A plan for continued professional growth and development in areas critical to Social Studies Scholarship including critical reading, analytical writing, evidenced-based writing, and executive functioning.
