Battalion Chief Shift Assignment Salary Range: $31.40 - $45.84/Hourly, DOQ Battalion Chief Day Assignment Salary Range: $44.19 - $64.52/Hourly, DOQ
External new hires will be placed in the pay scale based on experience.

Testing will be conducted for this position during the week of August 11th, 2025. Testing will consist of the following components:

SCORING:
The Technical Panel will count as 30% of the overall score; The Oral Board will count as 30% of the overall score; The Written Exam will count as 25% of the overall score; The Fire Chiefs interview will count as 15% of the overall score. A minimum score of 70% on each component and an overall score of 70% or better is required for placement on the eligibility list. Eligibility list will be established for two (2) years. The Fire Chief may elect to retire the list at any time during the duration of the list.
Qualified candidates will receive separate testing notification via email and must be available to participate in all components on the date/time scheduled; no make-up tests will be given.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Requires non-standard, rotating shift-work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. May be subject to call back.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs work overseeing fire station and staff operations and procedures, responding to and
supervising emergency incidents, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, maintaining files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the direction of the Fire Deputy Chief. Supervision is exercised over Fire Captains.
To manage the activities and operations of a division; Training and/or Emergency Medical Services, to serve as a Shift Commander in the Fire Suppression Division. Assist in the development, implementation of and coordination of various programs within their assigned area of responsibility.
The EMS and Training Battalion Chiefs differ from Shift Battalion Chiefs in that the primary focus is the development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive EMS & Training programs rather than managing fire suppression activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ten (10) consecutive years in fire and emergency medical services with a Fire Department/District of similar size and call volume as Lake Havasu City Fire Department, including five (5) years as a Captain at the time of application and Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Operations, Management or Public Administration or closely related field (as approved by the Fire Department) from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of) Blue Card Incident Command (IC) training program for NIMS type IV & V incidents, MAG300: Intermediate Incident Command System and Mag 400: Advanced Incident Command System certifications upon hire.
Possession and maintenance of or Certified Emergency Paramedic (CEP) and ability to maintain continuing education requirements at the minimum level established. Must obtain and maintain administrative medical control issued by medical director. Possession of current CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications upon assigned to the EMS Battalion Chief.
Possession and maintenance of Arizona State Certification or National Registry Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and ability to maintain continuing education requirements at the minimum level established.
Possession of Fire Instructor II, NFPA 1041
Possession of NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer Certification or equivalent
Possession of Fire Officer II, NFPA 1021 Certification
Possession of NFPA 1001 Firefighter I/II Certification issued by the Office of the Arizona State Fire Marshal, Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence, or other state or federal NFPA equivalent.
Must meet requirements of NFPA 1582 standards.
May require possession of, or ability to obtain, specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position. Valid driver's license of appropriate class.
