JOB DESCRIPTION:

Performs intermediate administrative support work coordinating and performing maintenance and repairs of police fleet vehicles and facility, receiving, and distributing mail, maintaining inventory, maintaining files and records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Police Lieutenant.

The ideal candidate for the Police Service Technician position is a detail-oriented and proactive individual with experience in fleet management, general maintenance, and building upkeep. They will be responsible for overseeing the police department’s vehicle fleet, coordinating maintenance and repairs, and ensuring facilities remain in optimal condition. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as this role requires collaboration with officers, staff, and external vendors. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot issues, prioritize tasks efficiently, and work independently when needed. Above all, they are dedicated to maintaining the department’s essential equipment and facilities to support law enforcement operations effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED and moderate experience in minor automotive repair and maintenance, general construction and maintenance activities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.

Valid Driver License of appropriate class

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordinates routine maintenance and repairs of police fleet vehicles including boats and off-road vehicles.

Performs minor maintenance of vehicles onsite such as changing windshield wiper blades.

Picks-up, sorts, transports, and delivers various items such as interoffice mail, US mail, equipment, supplies, documentation, or other materials to/from various locations.

Coordinates the set-up and breakdown of various department equipment and meeting rooms.

Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to the facility, including but not limited, to changing air filters, light bulbs, and touching-up paint.

Coordinates facility maintenance with Maintenance Services Division.

Inventories and orders materials and supplies for the department.

Prepares and maintains records, files, and documents.

Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid driver license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of record keeping, file maintenance, and purchasing practices for the department; general knowledge of the less complex mechanical parts of automotive equipment; general knowledge of the greasing and lubrication requirements of automotive vehicles and replacing simple parts; general knowledge of the care and use of tools and equipment used in servicing automotive equipment; general knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets.

Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to detect by visual inspection any worn, defective or improperly adjusted parts; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to compile a variety of information and data; ability to keep records of repair and service operations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and supervisors.

The succeeding examination processes may be required: training and experience, testing, panel interview, employment eligibility verification (EEV) requirements, personnel evaluation profile (PEP), polygraph test, background investigation and alcohol/drug screening test. Appointment subject to successful background investigation and City paid postemployment medical examination after offer of employment has been made.
