Located in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, Lake Junaluska is a conference and retreat center that hosts over 50,000 overnight guests annually. We have over 400 lodging rooms, a campground, and meeting space for up to 2,000 people. All of our facilities are located on a scenic 1,200 acre campus which boasts panoramic views, abundant recreation opportunities, and a 200 acre lake. Our market ranges from youth groups to affluent leisure guests primarily from the Southeastern US.
Essential Functions

Primary responsibility is to serve and protect the conference center and surrounding Junaluska community.

Provide security to all guests, visitors, employees and property owners at Lake Junaluska Assembly.

Responsible for daily grounds patrol of Lake Junaluska conference property and community.

Provided traffic control assistance for conference center events and community as needs arise.

Responsible for daily courtesy residential house checks, and evening LJA conference center facilities.

Respond to medical calls, assist EMS, Fire and other agencies within the Junaluska community and LJA campus.

Responsible for the timely documentation of emergency or non-emergency calls for service.

Non-sworn unarmed officers act as the eyes and ears of the law enforcement in a support role to the Sheriff’s Office personnel and report to the Security leadership.

Must be comfortable with stopping cars and handling people who may be uncooperative.

Operate within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.

Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and report any unsafe activities or conditions immediately to supervisor or the Human Resources department.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Non-sworn officers must be approved by the Director of Assembly Public Works or designee.

Must gain and/or maintain CPR/AED certification and other required training as directed.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Must possess excellent hospitality skills and a strong desire to foster an attitude of Christian hospitality to “exceed guest expectations”.

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, Paycom, etc.

Organization Skills: Ability to prioritize, organize tasks along with being able to multi-task.

Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

Possess the ability to use cellular telephone.

Possess the ability to communicate to essential parties (Haywood County dispatcher, etc.) via two-way radio.

Working conditions

Performing moderate to extensive physical activities primarily of a security nature.
-
Working outdoors exposed to extreme elements (heat/cold/wind/rain/snow). At times will be driving in hazardous/extreme weather conditions in an enclosed vehicle.

Work in wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, with potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and very loud noises.

Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, using hands/fingers to perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Ability to communicate and hear staff and customer requests or complaints.

Must be in good physical condition; able to lift, carry, drag or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Be able to see up close (at 20 inches or less) and at a distance of 20 feet or more, good peripheral vision and depth perception required to coordinate work.

May work around armed law enforcement officers.

Hours: 12 hours per shift; (1-6 shifts per pay period) or other hours as assigned by the supervisor.
