Our curriculum emphasizes rigorous academics, classical literature, and analytical writing to prepare students for college, careers, and engaged citizenship.

Position Overview:

LLCA seeks a dedicated and passionate High School English Teacher to cultivate a love for literature, strong writing skills, and critical thinking in students. The ideal candidate will embrace the classical approach to education, guiding students through great works of literature, historical texts, and philosophical discussions while reinforcing strong rhetorical and analytical writing skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach classical and modern literature, composition, and rhetoric to high school students.
  • Foster Socratic discussions that encourage deep thinking, logical argumentation, and textual analysis.
  • Guide students in developing strong writing, research, and communication skills through structured writing instruction and literary analysis.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners while maintaining a high academic standard.
  • Cultivate a classroom environment that promotes virtue, intellectual curiosity, and a love for great literature.
  • Use primary sources, historical context, and interdisciplinary connections to deepen students' understanding of literature and language.
  • Assess student learning through essays, discussions, presentations, and formal assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.
  • Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and colleagues to support academic success.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty collaboration, and school-wide initiatives aligned with LLCA’s mission.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (required).
  • North Carolina teaching license in Secondary English (or willingness to obtain).
  • Passion for classical education and a commitment to fostering virtue and civic responsibility in students.
  • Strong knowledge of literary analysis, rhetoric, and structured writing instruction.
  • Experience leading Socratic discussions and critical thinking activities in the classroom.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in a public charter school or classical education setting.
  • Knowledge of classical works, philosophy, and historical texts that align with a liberal arts education.
  • Familiarity with formal logic, rhetoric, and composition pedagogy.
  • Ability to integrate historical and philosophical contexts into literature instruction.
