Position Overview:
LLCA seeks an innovative and knowledgeable K-12 Media Specialist to manage the school’s media center, promote information literacy, and integrate technology education into the curriculum. The ideal candidate will have expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and its ethical use in schools, as well as experience teaching keyboarding, coding, and computer science. Additionally, this role requires proficiency in Canvas, our primary Learning Management System (LMS), to support digital learning and technology integration across grade levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Library & Media Center Management:
- Curate and maintain a classical and modern media collection that supports LLCA’s curriculum and mission.
- Teach research skills, digital literacy, and responsible media consumption aligned with classical education principles.
- Foster a love for reading through literature programs, book clubs, and storytelling sessions.
- Support teachers by providing resources, research tools, and instructional materials for classroom use.
Technology & Computer Science Instruction:
- Teach keyboarding, coding, and computer science to students across all grade levels.
- Develop lessons on artificial intelligence (AI), its ethical implications, and proper use in educational settings.
- Introduce students to programming languages, robotics, and computational thinking in alignment with modern technology standards.
- Guide students in cybersecurity best practices, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use.
Instructional Technology & AI Integration:
- Serve as the primary resource for Canvas LMS support, assisting teachers and students with navigation, troubleshooting, and course management.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate technology, AI tools, and Canvas LMS into classical education subjects.
- Provide professional development for teachers on Canvas LMS, AI in education, digital resources, and classroom technology integration.
- Maintain and support educational technology tools, ensuring they align with ethical and responsible AI use.
- Assist students and staff with Canvas LMS functionality, digital assignments, and blended learning strategies.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
- North Carolina Media Coordinator or Teaching License (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in K-12 education, library management, or instructional technology.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence, coding, robotics, and computer science education.
- Strong understanding of Canvas LMS and its role in digital learning.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and other educational technology platforms.
- Strong understanding of classical education philosophy and its application in a modern learning environment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching computer science, coding, or STEM-related courses.
- Familiarity with Core Knowledge, classical literature, and historical research methods.
- Experience providing Canvas LMS training and support for teachers and students.
