Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for billing insurance claims electronically and on paper. This role is essential in facilitating the revenue cycle process and requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing practices.
Pay is to be determined based off experience.
Responsibilities
- Review patient records to determine the appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Accurately enter codes into billing software and ensure all claims are submitted in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in documentation or coding.
- Manage medical collections by following up on unpaid claims and resolving billing issues with insurance companies.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records that comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding standards, and insurance policies.
- Assist in audits of medical records to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Provide support to the medical office staff regarding billing inquiries and coding questions.
Requirements
- 2 Years proven experience in medical billing and coding; preferably within a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding practices, and systems used in the healthcare industry.
- Familiarity with DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
- Certification in Medical Billing or Coding (CPC, CCS, or similar) is required.
